Christmas gifts for loved ones

A few weeks ago, we gave you some suggestions for Christmas gifts for friends or extended family, but this time we would like to offer up some ideas for your nearest and dearest, such as immediate family and partners.

Herring Voyager

The budget can go a little bit awry for the people we love most, but as I suggested in Gifts for friends and extended family this Christmas, I believe that less is more, especially while we are trying to  watch the pennies. Consider buying one quality, thoughtful gift rather than a bundle of nonsense! Buy them something they will keep for a long time too to help drive down the number of items that end up in landfill. Here are a few suggestions:

The Christmas sweater
It’s a tried and tested gift choice! A gorgeous jumper is always eagerly received, especially as people are trying to avoid putting their heating on this year. If a loved one in your life feels the cold, then sort them out with a fabulous piece of knitwear.

We have been working with clothing manufacturers Peregrine to bring some quality British-made clothing to our Herring customers this year. Many of their items are made from Merino wool which is very sustainable, as well as being breathable, antibacterial, soft and warm. You cannot go wrong with their Annan crew jumper, which is available in four colours. For more texture, try their navy Waffle jumper or the fishermen style Hudson Aran, which comes in five colours.

The cashmere scarf
This is where quality is key. A cashmere scarf is one of those luxuries they you may wish you had but do not feel justified in buying for yourself. That makes it the perfect gift. We have some real beauties too. If you like a splash of pink, try the pink Stewart or Eildon check. We have many checked and tartan styles, but there is nothing wrong with a plain design too. The camel cashmere is a true classic.

The luxury luggage
Again, an item you may not splash the cash on for yourself but would definitely welcome as a present. A leather briefcase, holdall or satchel would be such a lovely gift to receive. Our Bovey holdall is simply class and is our all-time bestselling piece of luggage. If you want to spend a little less, we have smaller travel and messenger bags too.

The slippers
Christmas slippers should be an institution! We have got some of the smartest slippers around. We have warm lined, moccasin style, black tie-ready, shortened loafers and mules. Again, these are superb quality and a real step up from the kind of slippers you may buy from a supermarket or high street store.

The silk tie
Don’t yawn! If your loved one is a tie-wearer, then they will appreciate a decent tie! We have some terribly British silk ties to offer you made by Seaward and Stearn. The crown and pheasant designs are classics, while the pig is a bit more fun. We have plenty of designs to choose from.

Shoes?
We had to suggest shoes as we are a shoe retailer! Understandably though, people are often nervous about buying them for other people in case they do not fit. Worry not, we have a Christmas returns and exchange policy in case you made the wrong choice or picked the wrong size. However, you may find it easier to hit the mark with a pair of trainers. We do not sell trainers that you would find on the high street, so your loved one will stand out from the crowd…in a good way!  Check out our new Fierce trainers, our classic Goodwoods or the Voyagers for splash of colour.

If you do happen to choose an item from the gift list above, you will be a supporting a British business that supports British manufacturers. Every item has been carefully designed and made, so you know you are popping a quality gift under the tree this Christmas.
